Why wear knitwear with a suit?
Knitwear is comfortable, it’s warm, and it can really pull an outfit together. It also lends flexibility to a suit, providing a slightly more casual flavour and a more relaxed vibe if and when the suit jacket comes off. Whatever your reason for pairing knitwear and a suit, let’s make sure we’re doing it well by following some of the tips below.
Men's Suits

Knit Polo Fit
Knitted Polos give a high level of comfort and breathability whilst remaining smart enough to wear under a suit jacket. Don’t wear a tie with your Knitted Polo—that’s very suspicious behaviour indeed and we might have to have you taken into style custody if you do so. Bail is £10 and a promise that you won’t make such poor decisions again in future.
Can you wear a polo shirt with a suit?
Definitely, but be smart when choosing which Knitted Polo to pair with which Suit Jacket. Beware of colour clashes and uncomplimentary patterns. Your best bet is to go with a fairly neutral or block-colour Polo, which is either complimentary, monochromatic, or directly opposed to your suit jacket in terms of colour. If the event is leaning toward the informal, you’ve got a little more room to experiment with texture and pattern, but don’t say we didn’t warn you of the dangers that lie within.

Knit Jumper Fit
You know that supervisor you had in your first job who wore a cheap polyester crew neck stretched over their gut and shiny tie, under an ill-fitting suit jacket? That’s not the look we’re going for here. You’re better than that.
Can you wear a jumper with a suit?
Yep, and here’s what you’re going to do: You’re going to go for a lovely Cable Knit Jumper in Charcoal or Navy to compliment your suit, with or without a collared shirt—up to you—but you’ll look sharper without. A simple Tee will do—gives more of a relaxed look, as opposed to post-office organised fun with the boss in attendance.
A Waffle Jumper will do just as good a job—the key here is to keep it simple. A patterned jumper has the potential to look a bit chaotic (in a bad way)when paired with a suit.

Roll Neck Fit
Now this is just a classic fit. There’s something about a roll neck poking out from the lapelles of a suit jacket like a woollen periscope that just exudes class and luxury. There’s probably some kind of science behind it. Not sure what that science might be, but you know it to be true—this style pairing made in menswear Heaven.
How to wear a roll neck with a suit?
Get your Roll Neck, right? Pop that on, then grab your suit—in appropriate colours, please—pull on your Suit Trousers and Jacket, pair them with some smart socks and Shoes, et voila. That’s it. Don’t overthink it. Good luck out there, knitwear enthusiasts.
