What makes a high quality Polo shirt?
The trick with Polo Shirts is that you don’t really want them fitting too baggy, regardless of your body shape. One or two inches worth of pinchable material around your torso, that’s all you need (that’s 2.5cm - 5cm if you’re on the continent). A proper polo shirt should be cotton or, occasionally, a high quality soft wool like our Merino Wool Network Long Sleeve Polo. Not to blow our own trumpet, but Percival is undisputed grand master of the Knitted Polo. The cut, the intricate details in the knit, the now iconic patterns and the more subtle block designs, the high quality materials and the versatility—none of it is by accident.
What to wear with a Polo shirt?
A polo shirt, especially the way Perci makes them, is truly one of the most versatile items in any man’s wardrobe. Wear ‘em with jeans, wear ‘em with trousers, wear ‘em with a suit, boil ‘em, mash ‘em, put ‘em in a stew.
Open-collared with a suit is a lovely alternative to a standard shirt & tie combo, especially a Knitted Polo. Equally, paired with Straight Leg Jeans, you’re gonna look superb down the pub. If it’s nippy and you want to chuck a coat on over the top, not a problem, polo and Sherlock is a combo as classic as Cole & Yorke, Shearer & Ferdinand, Bergkamp & Henry.
Is a Polo shirt smart casual?
Polo shirts aren’t just for Christmas. Nor are they just for Easter, Ramadan, Hanukkah, Halloween, or Diwali. A good polo can be worn all year round—as part of a smart casual suit, at a wedding, a posh meal, a barbecue… Honestly, if you can find a truly inappropriate event to wear a polo to, let us know. Maybe not a funeral, to be fair. That’s it, though!
