Why every man needs a great suit
Owning a great suit is a rite of passage for any man. It’s one of those things you just need in order to keep moving forward in this world, like making sure you have clean pants and socks to put on everyday. Having a great suit means you can show up to life’s more formal, fancy occasions and look at ease. An important investment that at least gives the impression that you’ve got your life together, even if you’re an absolute mess behind the scenes.
Men's Two Piece Suits

6 Different types of men's suits
First off, let’s do a quick run through of six of the best men’s suit styles.
Single-Breasted vs. Double-Breasted
What’s the difference between a single-breasted suit and a double-breasted suit? Don’t worry, you are not the first person to sugar this confusion, there’s a simple answer. Double-breasted suits are the ones that have overlapping material at the front, and two columns of parallel buttons. Single-breasted suits simply have two or three buttons up the centre and the material doesn’t overlap.
Linen vs. Cotton Suits
Linen suits and cotton suits each have their own strengths. Linen suits are ultra-lightweight, breathable, and ideal for warm and hot conditions. Cotton suits are a classic look and tend to hold their shape well.
What's the difference between a blazer and a suit jacket
Generally speaking, blazers tend to be slightly more fitted in their cut, yet less formal in tone. Suit jackets are usually paired with matching trousers and have a more formal feel. They’re closely related to each other, though, like a dolphin and a porpoise, a turtle and a tortoise.

Suit fits: finding your perfect style
It’s not just about materials and colours when it comes to finding your ideal suit. The fit of the suit is an important consideration too. It’ll vary depending on your own personal taste, your body shape, and the type of event you’re attending.
Tailored
A tailored fit is generally better for the slimmer man. It cinches slightly around the waist and shoulders, showcasing your athletic frame, and good for you.
Regular fit
Regular fit suits are your classic look. A little roomier around the shoulders and waist, but without veering into boxy territory. Can’t go wrong with a regular fit.
Relaxed fit
Intentionally boxier and with plenty of room for movement, relaxed fit suits are designed for comfort as well as style. They’ll fit everyone, but lend themselves especially well to the larger man.
Men's Tailored Suits & Ties

Best fabrics for men's suits
It’s important to take the fabric of your suit into consideration—this can really make or break a suit. Let’s take a look at the big players in suit fabric, shall we?
Wool
Wool Suits are a little heavier than the others. Warmer, too. But it’ll hold its shape and look sharp as a tack in those colder months. Ideal for a winter wedding or outdoor event.
Linen
If you’ve got a bunch of summer events coming up, or even if you’re just planning a summer getaway somewhere hot, a Linen Suit is a great choice. Those hollow fibres are going to save you from unwanted sweating and deliver you from stuffiness.
Seersucker
Like linen, seersucker is great in the heat. Seersucker Suits also offer texture that adds a little something extra to the suit, as well as elevating the fabric away from skin so that any moisture can evaporate, keeping you cool and comfortable.

Essential men’s suit accessories
Getting the basics right is one thing, but you need to know how to accessorise too.
Ties & pocket squares
The most obvious place to start is a good Tie that brings out a splash of colour and personality. For extra suaveness, pop a pocket square in your breast pocket. You’re not going to use it for anything, but it’ll help bring your whole look together.
Shoes
No sense in wearing a top quality suit with an old mucky pair of trainers. Pick out some smart Shoes that compliment your overall look. These Solovair Hi-Shine Gibson Shoes are a good place to start.
Watches & cufflinks
A nice watch and a set of cufflinks can really elevate a fit. Cufflinks are a great way to throw a bit of personality into the brew (as well as literally keeping your cuffs linked if your shirt doesn’t have buttons down at the wrists).
Accessories

Suit care & maintenance
If you’re going to invest in a nice new suit, you’ve got to look after it. Sort of like a pet, except you don’t have to feed it and it won’t poo on the carpet—that’s a Percival guarantee.
Storing and cleaning
Dark, dry, and on a hanger, please. Thank you.
Can you iron a suit jacket
You can, but probably don’t. Especially if it's linen or seersucker. Embrace those creases—they’re supposed to be like that. With other materials, just keep them hung up and they should be absolutely fine.

We’ve got Care Guides for all kinds of fabrics. Read and take heed.
