Items with a tailored fit are generally cut to a classic fit that’s designed to compliment the figure—cinched in at the waist, fitted around the shoulders, tapered sleeves and fuller trousers that taper slightly too.
What is a tailored fit suit?
If you’re of average build, a tailored suit will do wonders for you. Tailored suit jackets and Blazers are fitted around the chest, the sleeve seam is close to the top of the shoulder to provide a closer fit, and the seam under your armpit will come a bit further up too. Do tailored clothes fit better?
If you have your clothes individually tailored to your unique shape and size, then, yes, they’ll fit better than anything else you own. But buying a tailored fit off the shelf doesn’t necessarily guarantee a better fit than other sizings. It all depends on your particular dimensions. If you’re a slim bloke, you’re probably going to benefit from a slim fit. Makes sense.
Is tailored fit tighter than slim fit?
Generally speaking, yes, actually. Slim fit suits are a little looser than a tailored fit—lower armholes and a bit more room at the waist. Slim fit suits are designed to make slim guys look good, where a tailored fit might act only to accentuate perceived skinniness. If you’re a muscly hunk of a fella, probably avoid a slim fit suit.
What are tailored fit trousers?
Men’s tailored fit trousers are generally a bit fuller than slim fit trousers, but they gently taper in toward the ankle. You never saw Fred Astaire or Frank Sinatra wearing skinny trousers, did you?
What is the difference between tailored and regular trousers?
Regular trousers tend to be more of a straight up-and-down situation. They’re your standard Trousers that would look like two long rectangles if you flattened them out. Tailored Trousers give you a bit of room in the thigh and taper in toward the bottom of the leg—in other words they’re designed with the natural shape of your leg in mind.
