What are the best fabrics for winter suits?
Whilst summer is all about linen and seersucker and light cotton, winter is a thicker beast. Winter calls for corduroy and wool and flannel. Warmer, cosier, more luxurious, more appropriate for the season of indulgence and beating away the dark nights with Baileys and honey roasted parsnips.
Wool
You know who’s really good at staying warm despite living in some really cold and unforgiving environments? Sheep. You know why? Wool. Granted, we take their coats and manufacture them in ways you wouldn’t necessarily see on a sheep—you very rarely see a sheep in a cable knit jumper—but wool is a brilliant winter fabric nonetheless. A Wool Blazer is a good place to start.
Corduroy
Corduroy brings something a little different. Nature hasn’t managed to evolve corduroy sheep yet, so cord is made of cotton and is woven into the infamous ridges and valleys that has been a menswear staple since before your grandad could tie his shoelaces. Perci’s Cord Blazer is the absolute kiss of a chef.
Winter Party Suits
If you’re a sociable kind of fella, chances are you’ve got several functions to attend over the winter period, so you’re going to need several outfits. Gone are the days when you could wear the same suit to every event and leave no evidence. Social media has ruined everything, and now you need more clothes. Let us make things easy for you.
Christmas Party Suit
For the Christmas party, we’re going for a Corduroy Suit. Pair your Cord Blazer with a pair of Cord Trousers, and match the colours, please. Cord gives a little texture and a little more fun. Feels Christmassy in a way that doesn’t necessarily have any logic behind it—it just does, and you know exactly what we mean.
New Years Party Suit
All bets are off at New Year’s Eve. It’s the Wild West. It’s stylistically lawless. Nobody knows what the hell is going on, and nobody really cares. This is your chance to get a bit creative, so we suggest using our handy Outfit Builder to come up with something eye-catching yet classy for winter’s weirdest social occasion.
Winter Wedding Suit
Winter weddings are classy, so that’s the direction we’re going in. A wool suit is your go-to here. Match a Tailored Wool Blazer with the corresponding Tailored Wool Trousers and you’re breezing through Yule like a Michael Bublé on his way to the bank.
Alternatively, check out our Wedding Suits page for more inspiration. We’re backing wool this year, though.
